How to Travel?
Whether you’ve been dreaming of relaxing in Fiji or camping in Yellowstone, the world is your oyster and now that you’re retired, it’s time to think about where you’ll spend your vacation time. Do you want to go with a small group, organized by a travel company? Or would you prefer to go it alone? If you do decide to book a trip with a company, read reviews and choose a trusted company. That way, you can count on making the most of your experience. Some of the best are below, though the list is by no means exhaustive.
- AARP: A trusted resource for older adults, AARP also organizes small group trips to locations throughout the world. Find destination guides, trips, discounts, and more.
- Viking River Cruises: If large cruises aren’t your thing, consider Viking River Cruises. Their boats are far smaller and dock frequently along your route so you can explore the surrounding area.
- Frommer’s: From its inception in 1957, Frommer’s guidebooks have provided insight and sample itineraries to travelers of all types. Now, Frommer’s continues to offer more ideas and resources in more than 350 guidebooks. Their website is the perfect destination to begin planning your trip.
- Rick Steves: Rick Steves has made himself practically indispensable to anyone traveling in Europe. Visit his site or borrow some of his guidebooks from the library to get trip ideas and itineraries, travel tips about packing and insurance, and more.
- Lonely Planet: For over 40 years, Lonely Planet has created guides for travelers looking to travel on a budget, go off the beaten path, or visit tried-and-true destinations with new eyes. Their site and guides will help you plan a trip if you want to go it alone, but take a gander at their small group tours if you want something guided.
